Yenagoa—The Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa yesterday struck out the case of illegal possession of firearms instituted against Mr. Famous Daunemigha, a former Special Adviser to Governor Timipre Sylva on youths and mobilisation.

This followed the withdrawal of the charge against the accused by the prosecution counsel, Henry Ogbeiwi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police.

ASP Ogbeiwi’s reason was that the headquarters had taken over the matter from Bayelsa State Police Command and that the command had handed off the prosecution of the matter.

Vanguard reports that following the application for the withdrawal of the matter by the prosecution counsel, the trial judge, Justice Olayinka Faji, struck out the case.

Mr. Famous Daunemigha was arraigned in court on June 10, 2009, for alleged illegal possession of firearms.

The charge against the former governor’s aide in suit No: FHC/YNG/16C/2009 read thus: That you, Famous Daunemigha, on the 6th day of June, 2009, at No 42 Bay bridge road, Kpansia, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable court, had in your possession two pump action guns reasonably suspected of having been stolen or unlawfully obtained, thereby committed offence punishable under section 27(b)(i) of the Fire Arms Act CAP F.28 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Daunemigha pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
