CALABAR—Wife of Cross River State governor, Mrs. Obioma Liyel Imoke, has said women farmers in the state form a major component of Nigeria’s national agenda and Cross River State’s 7-point agenda.

She spoke while declaring open a one-day sensitization seminar for the association of women farmers in Cross River State.

According to her, the objectives of poverty reduction through farming and other related farming activities are perfectly in order.

Mrs. Imoke pointed out that the association’s efforts towards mobilization, information, education and training of women farmers had been accepted as a welcome design to meet felt needs within the scope of Nigeria’s vision 20:20-20.

Imoke, who was represented by the Director, Economic Power, Mr. Anthony Ubi, said that since the association has registered with “POWER”, it was in a better position to receive the micro-credit financing for farming, food processing, food security, food distribution and buy-back programme of the initiative.

Chairman of the occasion, a renowned female farmer in the state, Mrs. Martina Odom, said the benefit of farming was a direct responsibility by God to man, to till the earth for his sustenance. She advised youths to see farming as an avenue that could be explored for their livelihood and financial liberation.
