APPARENTLY overpowered by exhaustion, no fewer than five members of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to Osun State slumped yesterday during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2009 Batch 'C'.
The female corps members collapsed one after the other when speeches were being read by officials.
However, the medical team and some of their colleagues promptly provided the needed rescue operation and took them to the NYSC clinic few metres away from the venue of the ceremony for necessary attention.
Among the expected 1,283 corps members deployed to the state, many others who failed to meet the last Wednesday deadline for registration were seen waiting to be attended to by NYSC officials.
Addressing the gathering at the Orientation Centre, Ede, Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola urged female corps members to shun indecent dressing and other moral laxity in and out of the orientation camp.
The governor was represented by Colonel Adetokunbo Ojomo, commandant, Engineering Construction Regiment, Nigerian Army, Ede; Commissioner of Police, Mr. John Moronike; Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Fasasi Ogunsola, who administered the oath of allegiance.
He reminded them that the three-week orientation was aimed at instilling in them the requisite leadership qualities of perseverance, endurance, discipline and ability to co-exist with others from various background.
The State NYSC Co-ordinator, Mrs. Keziah Okonofua, who performed her first swearing-in ceremony function in the state, advised the corps members to take the message of the oath of service to the nation as a life-long legacy and should not be seen as a mere promise.
