GOVERNOR Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State has vowed to ensure that vandals of public property face the wrath of the law.
The governor spoke yesterday in Jalingo, the state capital, while inspecting the high tension equipment currently being installed in the state by Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) which The Guardian learnt would be commissioned on December 3.
The 133kv project, when completed, The Guardian learnt, will put an end to the epileptic power supply in the state.
Suntai expressed belief that the vandals operate with the connivance of PHCN staff who know everything about the company's equipment.
"Let me be honest with you, most of these evils are committed with the help of the people working in that organisation," he said
Citing the recent case of the state television where parts of the newly bought generating set were vandalised, the governor disclosed that some staff of the station were discovered "to have not only helped but perpetrated the offence themselves"
He admonished those involved in such acts to desist by "putting the fear of God in the heart" otherwise, the government, he said, would not hesitate to punish such persons.
The ongoing rural electrification projects, he believed, would be completed this year or early next year.
"The rural electrification projects we have put in place should be completed maybe before the end of the year or early next year. As I am speaking to you, many of them have been completed and test run."
The governor urged the PHCN to ensure regular power supply as soon as the projects are completed and commissioned in December.
The PHCN through one of its officials pledged absolute commitment, disclosing that about 20 transformers had been earmarked for the state.
