OVER N200 million has been spent by the International Centre for AIDS Care and Treatment Programmes (ICAP) in Gombe State for the provision of free anti-retroviral drugs for people living with HIV/AIDS and maintenance of health facilities within the last two years, the country Director, ICAP Nigeria, Dr. Bola Oyeledun has said.
He disclosed this in Gombe while speaking at the first edition Gombe State Local Government Stakeholders forum meeting, adding that the America-based donor agency had signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government where five secondary health facilities were selected in which each hospital received N1 million for maintenance of existing facilities, provision of laboratory equipment and human capacity development.
He added that apart from the provision of financial backing to the Specialist Hospital Gombe, General Hospitals Zambuk, Kaltungo, Bojaga and Ashaka for the purchase of consumables, renovation and maintenance, there were about four other community-based organisations that were also getting financial assistance from the donor agency for running the programme of Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMCT).
